Friday, January 19, 2024, in Nice, the Departmental Youth Council took place for the presentation of the projects for the 2023-2025 term.
This year marked the tenth edition of the Departmental Youth Council, with participation from more than 28 middle schools in the Alpes-Maritimes department. This departmental council was created to understand and address the aspirations of the youth. It’s a great opportunity for young people to express themselves and be heard. Through this assembly, the department hopes to rebuild trust with young people, or even to create trust where it did not previously exist.
For these two years of the term, a touch of modernity is introduced with 27 pairs composed of girls and boys in the fifth grade. The main causes driving them are:
- Violence against minors.
- The environment and the cause of water.
- Fighting poor nutrition among young people.
- Artificial intelligence.
What are the themes addressed during this two-year term?
Today, two commissions were voted on. The first concerns the themes of “health, solidarity, and equality.” The students of the first commission decided to focus on combating violence against children, in partnership with “The Family Protection House,” and the national gendarmerie.
The second commission focuses on “the environment, digitalization, and living conditions.” The students decided to address the issue of water protection and preservation.
The General Council is a place of learning and democracy for young people. It raises their awareness of the importance of local activity, as well as societal themes likely to affect all the young people in the department.
To crown the end of the plenary assembly, the cultural contest “I am a Work of Art” was presented to the students. The goal is to transform into a mythical character from a famous painting in a photo. The winners will receive a photo shoot to become “a work of art” celebrating sports on the occasion of the 2024 Olympics.
