Who will be the 6 Azur residents carrying the Olympic Flame next June?

Latest News

A landmark moment marking the start of the Paris 2024 Games, the Olympic torch relay leaves few people indifferent. This year, six residents from the French Riviera will have the privilege of participating in the event.

The arrival of the Olympic flame in Marseille aboard the three-masted ship (Belem) on May 8, 2024 will mark the beginning of the flame-bearers’ journey across the entire territory until its arrival in the Alpes-Maritimes on June 18

These Flame bearers, now selected, join the great family of Trailblazers, all those who shine the light on the Alpes-Maritimes daily, and who will ensure the success of the Olympic Flame Relay for the Paris 2024 Games. They will be the first faces with a shared desire to spread the energy of sports, community, and territories,” declared Charle Ange Ginésy when revealing the names of those involved.

Thus, Alice Modolo (world vice-champion in freediving), Julia Pereira de Sousa-Mabileau (2018 Winter Olympic silver medalist in snowboard cross), Loïc Pietri (2013 judo world champion and native of La Colmiane), Jacques Chibois (Michelin-starred chef in Grasse), Alexandre Farrugia (president of Handibasket Le Cannet, former Paralympic athlete), and Sebastien Camus (ultra-trail champion and key figure in this discipline in France) will have a unique experience as the flame passes through the Maralpin territory: Grasse, Cannes, Antibes, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Valberg, and La Colmiane-Valdeblore.

A Breath of Fresh Air

“In a world under great tension, the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games will be a time of calm, a breath of fresh air. As a great sports enthusiast from childhood, I know the importance of the values it conveys: well-being, determination, the spirit of surpassing oneself, and also that of fraternity. I am all the more delighted that the Flame Relay will cross the Maralpin territory on June 18. The passage of the Flame, carried by iconic figures from our department, and the accompanying events, will be a tremendous moment of sharing and conviviality for the entire Maralpin population, and especially for our youth,” concluded the President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department
