Friday, January 17
- Show. Laurent Baffie Ponders Questions. The comedian will perform at 8:30 PM at the Nice Conservatory. Known for his incisive and provocative shows that blend biting social commentary with a sharp sense of humor, Laurent Baffie always walks a fine line. His spontaneity, which made him famous, should be present for the man sometimes nicknamed the Sniper.
- ARES 28 Weigh-in. A key moment in a combat sports event, the ceremonial weigh-in of the Fight-Week ARES 28 will take place at 2 PM at the Radisson Blu Hotel. It’s an opportunity to meet the stars of the discipline, including the locals Axel Sola and Sofiane Boukichou, who will fight the next day.
- Rugby. Stade Niçois vs. Oyonnax might be the last chance match for the Maralpins. Before this 17th day of Pro D2, the team from Nice is at the bottom of the league, with eight points behind the second-to-last. At home, they need to score as many points as possible to avoid relegation! The match starts at 7:30 PM at the Marcel Volot Stadium.
- Handball. It has been over a month since the National 1 championship was paused. A long break that needs to be spent wisely to not lose the competitive edge. - Studyrama Fair. The Palais des Expositions in Nice will host the Studyrama Fair. An annual event for high school and college students to learn about more than 800 educational programs from Bac to Bac+5 degrees. They can exchange with education sector professionals, teachers, and students. Experts will be present to guide young people in making educational decisions. It’s advised to register ahead of time to better prepare.
- ARES 28, the Fights. It is one of the largest MMA events in France. It will take place in Nice, specifically at the Palais Nikaïa. It’s an opportunity for enthusiasts and the curious to see prominent figures in this sport, which is gaining popularity in France. The local Axel Sola will be the main headliner. Hostilities begin at 7:30 PM.
- Exhibition. In Praise of Time is a collective exhibition woven from the perspectives and secrets of five artists gathered for the occasion. Its title is part of the exhibition, integral to its workings. The focus of the five exhibiting artists is the concept of time, a recurring theme in art history, from Memento mori to Soft Watches and Vanities. Available for viewing at the Depardieu Gallery from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Note that it’s the last day.
- Torball. The best male Torball teams will compete at the Albert Malatesta Sports Complex in Nice. A sporting event to discover and open to all. This year, Nice hosts the first-leg matches of the French Men’s D1 Torball Championship. From 9:30 AM to 5 PM, six teams will compete at the Albert Malatesta Sports Complex, located at 64 avenue Cyrille Besset. Entry is free and open to everyone.
- Show. Diptych, directed by Raphaëlle Boitel, is a performative choreography exploring the complexity of the body. On stage, a woman contorts, battling her inner demons, fighting for her identity and soul. A performance borrowing elements from circus, theater, and dance, to be seen at the Salle des Franciscains. The show is at 3 PM.
Sunday, January 19
- Occitan Dictation. The 23rd edition of the Occitan Dictation in Nissart will be held at 3 PM, at Notre Dame de Bon Conseil. This event, open to everyone and free of charge, promises an afternoon of exchanges centered around the Nissart language.
- Show. You Who Are a Therapist by Brigitte Rico is a show to see at the Alphabet Theater at 11 AM. A very patient therapist and some very therapist-like patients! A whimsical little boy, a paranoid grandmother, a psychopath, a baroque Englishwoman, and many other eccentric characters have appointments with Doctor J’écoute at his clinic, which is open for a hilarious romp not to be missed!
- Exhibition. ANIMA(EX)MUSICA – The Symphony of Giant Insects is an exhibition for the family. A collection of twelve giant insects entirely created from fragments of decommissioned musical instruments fills the space. This installation, at the intersection of organology, visual arts, and entomology, invites you to both see and hear the microscopic world of insects. It’s available for viewing at the Lympia Departmental Cultural Space at the Port.
