A Christmas atmosphere filled the Allianz Riviera during the last event of 2017.
The Aiglons enhanced it and deeply inhaled it to finally offer their supporters a lovely gift: a 4th consecutive win in the league. They are now in 6th place in the standings.
Thanks to another goal by Super Mario and a robust match, the Gym triumphed over Bordeaux.
Facing a Girondins team that came to defend in a turtle-like manner and counterattack like a fox, the Gym had to exhibit patience and consistency. They applied themselves seriously. Set up in a 4-3-3 formation at kickoff, they played quality football and remained long in the opposing half, proving that skills only need confidence and points to be expressed. They retreated slightly at the end of the match, but without putting themselves in danger.
While the first attempts were credited to the visitors, the opening goal would be claimed by Nice. At the half-hour mark, Maxime Le Marchand, once again lined up (and once again performing well) on the left of the defense, cleverly returned a ball into the box. Pierre Lees-Melou won his header duel, Super Mario pushed it in with his left foot (1-0, 36’).
The Azuréens started the second half as they finished the first: with precision and quality. Bordeaux got a few set-pieces, Nice missed out on a chance to extend their lead. It remained this way until the final whistle.
The Gym ultimately concludes an exceptional year on a lovely note, anticipating 2018 in good spirits.
