For this 10th day of the National 1 championship, Cavigal handball was away at Pau. A hard-fought match despite the difference in rankings between the two teams.
A solid team led by its leader. Thatโs what allowed Cavigal handball to claim victory on the Pau Nousty field. A success that had to be chased until the final minutes.
In the first half, the Nice and Pau teams were neck and neck. The players from the French Riviera were aggressive. The Pau staff had to intervene three times for concussion protocols. This is proof of the commitment of captain Alexis Bonโs men. Once again head and shoulders above the rest, he scored 10 goals, making him the top scorer of the match. Despite the numerous stoppages, Nice took a slight lead just before halftime (20-17).
The goalkeepers make the difference
Pau tried to level the score at the start of the second half thanks to Nathan Terrasse and Soren Bourahoui. But Cavigal, supported by its goalkeeper duo Maxime Aicardi (11 saves) and Eden Speno (6 saves), and a well-organized defense, managed to maintain a slight advantage. Mateo Pascal, impeccable on 7-meter throws (4/4), helped keep a +2 lead. It wasnโt until the end of the game that victory felt within reach, despite the efforts of Baptiste Bergerou. Despite one player being sent off from each team five minutes before the end, Maxime Aicardi stayed focused and dashed the locals’ hopes.
In the end, Cavigal secured an important away victory (31-34). After experiencing a rough patch in mid-October, the team seems to be back on track. This win allows Cyril Parmentelotโs players to climb back to fourth position in the National 1 championship, just one point behind the leaders.
Next Sunday, the Nice team will host the third-place team in the championship, GFC Ajaccio. Itโs a match to watch at the Pasteur hall at 4:15 PM.
