The extension works of the Saint-Jean d’Angély garden have begun for a duration of three months. This development will offer an additional 1,000 m2 of space available by August.
The works started last week. The Saint-Jean d’Angély garden, inaugurated in November 2022, will expand by 1,000 m². Situated in a rapidly evolving area, this new green space adds to the already existing 4,000 m². It has been designed as a breathing space for residents, at the crossroads of various uses: nature, sports, and education.
This extension has been conceived in collaboration with several city services. The Sports Directorate, the Green Spaces Directorate, and the Natural History Museum have participated in the development of the project. The objective is clear: to offer an accessible, educational, and sustainable place.
Environmentally Friendly Developments
The works will last approximately three months. The total cost of the operation amounts to 230,000 euros. The project includes the removal of 960 m² of impervious surfaces to allow natural water infiltration. The ground will be redone with stabilized sand, suitable for pedestrians and individuals with reduced mobility.
Eleven new trees will be planted to create shaded areas. A teaching garden will also be established, including shrubs selected by the Natural History Museum. To accompany this vegetation, an automatic irrigation system will be installed.
The garden will also include a sports area. Seven pieces of equipment will be installed on a surface made of wood chips. This area will be open to everyone, particularly to the neighborhood’s youth. An extension of the current fence will ensure safety.
This project is part of the tree charter adopted by the Metropolis. It also complies with the “3-30-300” rule: each resident should see at least three trees from their home, live in a neighborhood with 30% green coverage, and be within 300 meters of a green space.
The extension of the Saint-Jean d’Angély garden aligns with this logic. Through this project, the municipality intends to continue its efforts to adapt urban space to the climate while meeting daily needs. This commitment materializes with this transformation of the local landscape, even though the project might have been better conceived from the start…
