On July 2nd, Christian Estrosi presented the summer security plan. Key features include an increase in staff numbers, extended hours, and an expanded scope of action.
โWe undoubtedly have the most experienced and the most responsive municipal police in France,โ stated Christian Estrosi during the presentation of the summer security plan. For the summer of 2025, it has been strengthened, particularly in terms of staffing and operating hours. This evolution aims to better ensure the safety of residents and tourists. The plan spans two and a half months.
Increase in staff numbers and extended hours
This is the key takeaway from the presentation of the summer security plan: 20% more officers deployed on public roads. Regarding the tramway, there has also been a reinforcement. Since 2022, there has been a 35% increase in staffing, which has also allowed for the establishment of night patrols.
There is also an increase in foot patrols, with 125 to 130 people in key areas: Massรฉna, Garibaldi, Vieux-Nice, Promenade des Anglais, among others. โWe have fourteen teams until midnight during the week and until three in the morning on weekends. There is also a canine unit fully oriented towards nighttime,โ said Jรฉrรดme Marcenac, director of the municipal police of Nice. Staffing has been increased in sectors with high stakes.
Expanding the scope of action
On July 15th, two booths will appear at Place Massรฉna and Garibaldi. They will serve as gathering points. In mid-July, Christian Estrosi announced the creation of a merchant brigade. This network aims to be vigilant and observe what is happening on public roads, and with which individuals, as a means of combating it with the support of merchants.
For the start of the school year, other objectives have been set, such as the fight against homeless populations. A new municipal police number will also be available by the end of the year: 3699. All this is in anticipation of the delivery of the police headquarters, scheduled for December 2025, which will allow for the centralization of most staff. Nice is determined to maintain its status as one of the most secure cities in France.
