All year round and even in the summer, the Promenade des Anglais attracts runners. Everyone succumbs to the charm of the place and the combination of the sea and the sun.
It is an iconic place in Nice. More than just a boulevard, the Promenade des Anglais is a training ground that fulfills all the criteria for many runners. Combining an exceptional panorama, a mild climate, and a lively atmosphere, it stands as a must-visit spot in the Baie des Anges. Athletes agree unanimously: the “Prom” leaves everyone satisfied.
A unique setting…
The sun has been up for just about an hour, but many runners are already hitting the Prom. Jonathan is among those who braved the summer heat of Nice: “It’s quite smooth. We get a good dose of sunshine and oxygen with the sea next to us. Even though it’s only flat, the scenery makes it impossible for me to get bored when I run. I also train in the backcountry of Nice, in mountainous areas like Saint-Jeannet, because I also do trail running. It’s very different from the Prom, but of course, it has a particular charm.”
The man, who works in the Nice police force, continues: “The Prom is known worldwide, it’s one of the most popular spots for tourists. Proof is that everyone takes pictures in front of the I Love Nice sign. I’m going to work afterward, I was early so I motivated myself to come run here for 45 minutes. It helps to start the day well.”
Thierry, on the other hand, has just finished his daily outing. To stay in shape, the sexagenarian can no longer do without the Prom: “Everything is here! Thanks to the diversity of people, you can talk, meet people, play sports… I run between 13 and 15 kilometers every day. I had a heart attack in 2016. So, for me, it’s a way to maintain my health.”
Romane, a student, comes to run when she has the chance: “I’ve tried running in the city before. There are a lot of pedestrians, and it can quickly get difficult to find a way through. Here, there are just as many people, but the space is much bigger, not to mention the view.”
… sought after for sporting events
The Prom is not only sought after by amateur athletes. It also hosts many events throughout the year: the Ironman 70.3, Marathon Nice-Cannes, Nice International Half Marathon, Ultra Trail, Prom’Classic, Jogging Rose… Regardless of the discipline and distance, this place is widely used.
Amélie ran the Nice International Half Marathon on April 27th. She has a memorable memory of it: “The course was magnificent. Running with the sea just a few meters away is a luxury you don’t find everywhere. All along the Promenade, spectators were cheering us on. It’s something all runners must experience!”
These events turn the Promenade des Anglais into a true celebration track. Beyond the sporting challenge, a deep dive into the soul of Nice awaits the runners. Among the dozens of palm trees, everyone has the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable moment.
