Under the palm trees of Albert 1st Garden, the tempo is set. The Nice Jazz Festival is in full swing and offers much more than jazz. For many festival-goers present last night, it was a first… or a much-anticipated return. Amidst musical excitement, food trucks, a lively village, and a festive spirit, all commend a successful atmosphere.
“I came especially for Raye”
For Marie, it’s the grand premiere at the festival. “Indeed, I came specifically to see Raye at 11 p.m. I’ve been listening to her since 2021.” She admits not being a big fan of jazz: “I prefer pop, rock. But if we’re talking about the jazz of the ’50s-’60s, of course. Today, with technology and AI, jazz has evolved a lot.“
Beyond the concert, she also sees the event as a lever for the city: “This festival is a good way to promote Nice, to showcase it.“
In the audience, another voice rises: that of a Niรงoise expatriated in Canada, who attended the festival three years ago. She is thrilled to be back: “I love it. This year, I notice there are three zones. Before, there were only two stages. Now, you can feel it has grown.” She highlights the comfort of the organization and the event’s upscale growth.
Many festival-goers are surprised by the scale the festival has reached. “I attended last year, but this time it’s even better. The village is larger, there are more stalls, more dining options. You can really enjoy yourself before the concerts,” confides a regular. “It’s also a place for exchange. I love jazz because it puts you in a good mood, it brings people together. And it’s also important that we address topics like harassment, especially for us women.“
A summer and friendly setting
Others, like this student who recently moved to Nice, savor the moment: “It’s my first time here, and I love it. The atmosphere is great, especially in the evening, outdoors, with the stalls, the lights, the music everywhere as soon as you enter…” For her, jazz is an infinite source of inspiration: “There are so many variations, from Christmas jazz to summer jazz. It gets you moving, it sets the mood!“
Having come for the first time five years ago, another spectator notes a real turning point: “Back then, there was only the stage. Now, there’s a real village. You can eat, have a drink, enjoy yourself, even if you don’t know all the artists.” An opinion shared by a spectator encountered on the site: “The village is nice, it’s pleasant to be able to stroll and enjoy the moment.“
Multiple stages, diversity of audiences, and a festive spirit: the Nice Jazz Festival appeals to a new generation of festival-goers, eager to vibrate to the rhythm of summer.
