AS Monaco Basket easily won on the Limoges court, 94 to 77, this Sunday evening. A result achieved thanks to an excellent first half.
This Sunday evening, the Roca Team traveled to the Limoges court for the sixth day of the Betclic Elite. After their two brilliant victories in the Euroleague against Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, AS Monaco’s basketball team hopes to finish this week on a high note.
The Monegasques started their game perfectly! The players from the Rock undoubtedly put together their best first quarter since the start of the season. Vassilis Spanoulis’s men opened with a 10 to 0 lead. As a symbol of this impressive start, CSP Limoges scored its first two points after more than five minutes of play.
The Roca Team produced ten minutes of excellent quality and found themselves well ahead (31-11). The entire team was responsive on both sides of the court. The men from the Principality were strolling, looking for the best shooting positions.
A serious match for the Roca Team
Continuing from the first quarter, the Roca Team developed a simple and enjoyable basketball for the audience. Vassilis Spanoulis’s players steadily increased the gap and delivered a blow to their evening opponent. The halftime score was 56 to 28 in favor of the Monegasque team.
A scenario that was foreseeable, as the Roca Team was expected to be the overwhelming favorite for this game. The two teams clearly do not have the same ambitions, and the logic was more than respected in this first half. Before this match, CSP Limoges had only won one of its last five games.
Limoges fought to the end
With a Beaublanc sports hall that kept singing despite the lopsided score, CSP Limoges was determined to fight until the last moments. The Limousin players returned from the locker room with determination, facing a slightly more lax Roca Team defense. They won the third quarter 23 to 17. The lead remained very comfortable for the Principality’s club (73-51).
The Roca Team relaxed at the start of the last quarter. Limoges took advantage and instilled doubt within the Monegasque ranks. Beaublanc wanted to believe! A short-lived dream, the Roca Team recovered and maintained the gap. Vassilis Spanoulis’s players managed the end of the match and easily won on the Beaublanc court, 94 to 77.
The competition continues for the Roca Team, with two matches scheduled for next week. A first match against Maccabi Tel-Aviv this Thursday, away in the Euroleague. The week will conclude at Gaston Médecin with the hosting of Saint-Quentin.
