The Roca Team chains together an eighth consecutive victory in Nancy.

The Roca Team won on Nancy’s court, 93 to 79. Led by Nikola Mirotic and Elie Okobo, AS Monaco Basket managed the match from start to finish, without being flamboyant. 

AS Monaco Basket concluded the first week of January in the best possible way. The Monegasques secured a victory against Nancy, 93 to 79, during the 15th day of Betclic Élite. Thanks to a good start, the Principality club was able to control the score from start to finish, despite a few comebacks by the Lorraine team. 

The time for the Roca Team’s return to Betclic Élite has arrived. After two matches and two victories in the EuroLeague, the Monegasques return to the championship. Their first outing in 2026 took place on Nancy’s court. 

On a streak of seven consecutive victories, Mike James’ teammates faced a struggling opponent recently. The Nancy team is on a series of three consecutive defeats. 

A fired-up Nikola Mirotic to start the match

After an intense week, AS Monaco Basket once again made an excellent start to the match. The first minutes have often been tricky for the players from the Principality in 2025. Issues that seem to have disappeared to the great pleasure of Vassilis Spanoulis. 

In the first ten minutes, Nikola Mirotic was able to show his skills. The Spaniard recorded 11 points and made three rebounds in this first quarter. An individual performance that allowed the Principality club to take the lead in the score (23-17). 

The Roca Team experiences a more challenging second quarter 

Unlike the first two matches of the year, the Monaco team is less effective. The team relied more on its Spanish center. Nancy took the opportunity to close the gap and come within a small margin as they headed into the locker rooms (42-41). 

The Roca Team was much less precise in shooting in this second act. Vassilis Spanoulis’ men did not exceed a 40% success rate. A low percentage explained by the choice of shots attempted. Only four two-point shots were taken, versus nine from beyond the arc. 

The Roca Team takes advantage of Lorraine’s inaccuracy 

In the third quarter, AS Monaco Basket continued to struggle. The Monegasques played more in the paint, relying on Kelvarius Hayes. They took fewer long-distance shots and saw their shooting success rate slightly increase (55%). 

Despite their difficulties, the Princedom’s players managed to widen the gap once again. They capitalized on the Nancy team’s inaccuracy in front of the basket (37%) and regained a 11-point lead with ten minutes left in the game (69-58). Elie Okobo gave his team some breathing room in the closing moments of this quarter.

It was a perfect week for the Roca Team with three games and three wins. AS Monaco Basket wins 93 to 79 on Nancy’s court. Mike James’ teammates, who were rested tonight, achieved an eighth consecutive victory across all competitions. A performance that allows them to solidify their first place in the Betclic Élite standings. 

Nikola Mirotic and Elie Okobo stood out tonight. The center finished the game with 23 points and six rebounds. Meanwhile, the French player scored 16 points, made nine assists, and retrieved two rebounds. 

A new week with three games awaits Vassilis Spanoulis’ men. Two Betclic Élite matches, with home games against Gravelines-Dunkerque (January 13), followed by one against Limoges (January 17). Between these two duels, there will be a match against Paris Basketball in the EuroLeague (January 15).
