Latest News

The Tourism Observatory assesses the 2025 report for the Côte d’Azur. Air transport, hotel industry, and mountain resorts show high levels. Prospects for the winter remain on the rise.

The Tourism Observatory publishes the 2025 report for the Côte d’Azur France destination. The scope includes the Alpes-Maritimes and Monaco. The data confirms the continued good performance observed after the Covid period. The year 2024 was “Olympic” for the Côte d’Azur, marking an increase in tourism performance. The year 2025 continues in this trajectory.

Attendance over the complete year increases, both in terms of overnight stays and economic impact. The total number of stays exceeds 12 million tourists in 2025, for Leisure and/or Business purposes. The share of foreign tourists exceeds 50%, a rate higher than observed before the Covid years. The dynamic of international demand offsets a slight decline in French visitors.

The post-Covid rebound continues. Airplane stays in the Alpes-Maritimes or Monaco remain generally stable. The growth of foreign markets at +11% offsets a significant decrease in domestic air travel clients, at -11%. International air stays increase by 5% compared to 2019.

Nice Airport at the heart of international flows

In 2025, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport welcomes 15.23 million commercial passengers. This number increases by 3.2% compared to 2024. The number of commercial aircraft movements rises by 1.9% to 163,052. This trend confirms the impact of fuller planes with larger capacities.

This performance reflects the attractiveness of a geographically isolated but economically and internationally renowned territory, driven by the airport. International traffic rises by 4.7% in one year. Domestic traffic shows a slight decrease, at -0.3%.

The current tourism market largely relies on Leisure-driven demand. This segment strengthens its leading role. Less than 11% of air stays are for Business or MICE purposes, compared to 30% a few decades ago. The decline in the Business market is part of a broader trend. Conferences still represent an important and solid segment, in a context of changing professional practices and increased use of virtual options.

Hotels and rentals: economic indicators on the rise

The provisional hotel occupancy on the Côte d’Azur approaches 66% for the year 2025. The level is slightly above 2024. The overnight stays in hotels and residences reach again 13 million for the year. Attendance corresponds to the best level in over ten years. The average length of stay for commercial accommodations is 2.5 nights.

The total number of stays in hotels and residences increases by 1%. The corresponding overnight stays rise by 3%. The level approaches the record reached in 2000. This trend is supported notably by a 3% growth in hotel offerings. RevPar shows an increase of 7% for the year 2025.

The market share of private booking platforms continues to grow. Booked nights on these platforms increase by 6% in 2025 compared to 2024, according to AirDnA. The occupancy rate gains 1 point, reaching 62%. The RevPar for private rentals rises by 7% to €111. The length of stays remains stable, averaging 5 nights.

In international markets, most areas make progress by the end of November 2025. Italy and Central and South America show stability. Three markets experience a slight decline: the Netherlands (-4%), Great Britain (-7%), and Belgium-Luxembourg (-7%). The strongest increases are seen in China (+30%), Turkey (+50%), Japan (+35%), and the Near and Middle East (+21%). The top five markets remain the USA, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, and Scandinavia. The share of the USA increases, reaching the top position with over 15% of foreign overnight stays.

Mountains and winter: promising signs

Mountain resorts in the Alpes-Maritimes are starting off excellently. Early opening benefits from favorable snow conditions. The provisional occupancy rate reaches 66% during Christmas week and nearly 90% during New Year’s week. This festive period enhances the appeal of the resorts, particularly during New Year’s week with last-minute bookings.

The 2025-2026 news concerns Valberg, Gréolières 1400, Auron, Isola 2000, La Colmiane, and Roubion. These elements should further strengthen their attractiveness to a primarily French winter clientele.

For the rest of the winter season, the hotel indicators as of January 6 remain promising. Reservation rates increase by 3 points in January, 10 points in February, and 3 points in March. According to ForwardKeys, air bookings from January to March 2026 increase by 9 points compared to 2025, driven by international markets while the domestic market remains stable.
