Municipal Elections 2026 in Nice: Marine Tondelier Takes on Christian Estrosi and Eric Ciotti

This Sunday, the United for Nice list held a meeting at the Anantara Plaza Hotel. During this meeting, several left-wing figures like Marine Tondelier and Olivier Faure gave speeches against the camps of Christian Estrosi and Eric Ciotti.

As the municipal elections approach, the various political groups are continuously mobilizing to campaign in Nice. Today, a meeting of the United for Nice list was held at the Anantara Plaza Hotel. During this gathering, several figures from the French left were present including: Marine Tondelier, National Secretary of the Ecologists, and Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the Socialist Party.

During the meeting, several criticisms were made against the Ciotti and Estrosi camps. Marine Tondelier called the political opponent, Eric Ciotti (President of the Union of the Rights for the Republic) “an enemy within […] The people who want to weaken France and destroy Europe call to vote for the RN, Ciotti’s friends” (editor’s note: allied with the RN since 2024). “They are the fifth column, the enemies within France and Europe.” The mayor of Nice was not spared either from the criticisms of the Ecologists’ secretary: “These years of Macron government, supported by Estrosi, are leading the country in a very bad direction,” she explains.

The United for Nice List Program

The head of the United for Nice list, Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux, took advantage of this gathering to recall the local coalition’s program. The political project is organized around six axes: purchasing power, housing, security, transport, schools, and the environment. Among the measures, the deployment of tramway lines 4 and 5 is a priority for the head of the list: line 5 has been awaited for 25 years.” The elected official wants to extend the line to Ariane and the Paillon Valley to prevent road traffic-related pollution. A pollution that, according to the head of the list, causes more than 500 deaths in Nice.

The other key measure wanted by the group is rent control to stop the surge in prices. Speculation around Airbnbs will be limited, and offices or hotels will be transformed into main residences. “Every Niçois should be able to live with dignity, move around, and find housing without suffering the effects of over-tourism and real estate speculation,” highlights Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux.

Believing that Christian Estrosi is running out of steam and facing the rise of the far right, the left-wing alliance aims to win the municipal elections this year. “We, on the left, have a historic chance and responsibility to win,” explains Julien Picot, leader of the PCF. “The 5th largest city in France must not fall into the hands of the RN,” he adds.
