It is difficult to talk about the Nice Jazz Festival without mentioning Popa Chubby’s performance on July 24 in the arenas. He demonstrated that he is a true showman and above all that the guitar is his toy. All he needs is one in his hands to become a child again with his cherubic physique.
Ted “Popa Chubby” Horowitz, at 46 years old, is a greatly talented and world-renowned guitarist. In 2002, he filled the Bercy concert hall. Proof, like so many others, of his fame. He masters all styles: blues, jazz, rock, funk, soul and gangsta rap. He also flirts with country. Residing in Brooklyn, Popa Chubby is the undisputed leader of New York City Blues.
In Nice, he was magnificent. A few covers, some pieces from his previous albums and a prodigious stage presence were enough to ignite the audience at the Cimiez arenas. Magical moments when he sat down at the drums. Popa Chubby breathes music and has rhythm in his blood.
Some knew him, others discovered him, but he made an impression. A silhouette forever engraved in the memory of Nice spectators and music forever inscribed in their minds in the “exceptionally talented musician” category.
Popa Chubby, like Bénabar or Bumcello, is one of Nice Première’s favorites at this Nice Jazz Festival.
