Roca Team: a decisive week, but the transfer market is already underway

Awaiting the decision of the FFBB Appeal Chamber, expected after July 27, AS Monaco Basketball is already preparing the 2026-2027 season. The takeover project led by Helen Holdings could allow the Roca Team to restart with a budget exceeding 10 million euros and recruitment focused on several French internationals.

The future of AS Monaco Basketball remains suspended on the decision of the French Basketball Federation’s Appeal Chamber. The Roca Team must still submit several documents to the takeover file led by Helen Holdings, the group headed by former NBA player Jamal Mashburn. A decision is expected after July 27.

The file had been put into deliberation following the hearing before the FFBB Appeal Commission. In early July, the DNCCG had refused Monaco’s entry into Betclic Elite for the 2026-2027 season, deeming the financial guarantees presented insufficient. Since then, the club’s management has continued efforts to convince the authorities and finalize the takeover project.

In parallel, work on the future squad has already begun. If the project is validated, the club would have a budget slightly exceeding 10 million euros to build a team capable of competing in Betclic Elite and EuroCup.

French internationals targeted to rebuild the squad

The duo of Sergii Gladyr and Manuchar Markoishvili should remain on Monaco’s bench. The priority now concerns recruiting locally trained players to meet championship requirements while building a competitive foundation.

The first name targeted remains Juhann Begarin. Present in the Principality for the last two seasons, the 23-year-old winger finished the season with averages of 7.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in Betclic Elite. A knowledge of the club that makes this a priority.

The Roca Team is also monitoring Yakuba Ouattara. Out of contract with Paris Basketball, the former Monaco captain holds a special place with the club. Joël Ayayi is also among the profiles being studied after a season with averages of 6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in the championship.

Another important matter is that of Mathis Dossou-Yovo. The French forward just completed a remarkable season with Nanterre averaging 17.8 points and 7.3 rebounds. Several clubs have positioned themselves, particularly in Turkey, but no agreement has yet been reached. By bringing these four players together, Monaco would lay the first foundations of its sporting reconstruction.

Recruitment would not be limited to the French market. An agreement is said to have already been reached with Daron Russell, the EuroCup’s leading scorer last season. The situation of Nikola Mirotic and Nemanja Nedovic, still under contract, also remains to be clarified before the restart.

Kyllian Michée cannot yet be considered a locally trained player. The 19-year-old point guard, who came through Real Madrid, will have to wait another season before obtaining this status.

The decision expected after July 27 will now condition the continuation of the project. A validation of the takeover would also allow for a better approach to the hearing scheduled for July 31 before the Monaco District Court. A step that could become a formality if the financial file receives the green light from the FFBB.
