The CNOSF’s recommendation concerning AS Monaco Basket’s engagement in Betclic ÉLITE is now expected Friday, August 28 during the day. A new delay linked to the arrival of a European investor and new financial elements.
The timeline of the AS Monaco Basket case has evolved once again. After the conciliation hearing held Tuesday, August 25, the CNOSF’s recommendation was initially expected Wednesday, then Thursday. The decision is now announced for this Friday. This additional delay would be directly linked to the arrival of new elements in the Monaco case.
According to several sources, a major European company would have taken control of AS Monaco Basketball and committed to providing 10 million euros for the 2026-2027 season. L’Équipe indicates on its side that this new shareholder, presented as an international industrialist in the agribusiness sector, would have finalized its entry into the capital in recent hours. A first portion of the sum would have already been transferred to the club’s bank account.
A new financial project that changes the case presented to the CNOSF
The arrival of this investor modifies the financial data submitted to the CNOSF. The new shareholder could hold 98% of AS Monaco Basket’s capital. The remaining 2% would go to the association and the National Financing Company (SNF), which would have approved the transaction.
This development comes just days after the conciliation hearing. Tuesday morning, AS Monaco Basket was still defending a project based on a budget of approximately 12.5 million euros. The club came before the CNOSF with a cleaned-up financial situation following several debt write-offs, notably those of the SNF, Alekszej Fedoricsev, and Oleksiy Yefimov.
After the conciliation, the immediately secured resources and projected revenues had nevertheless led to an estimate between 6 and 7 million euros. The arrival of the new investor thus changes the trajectory once again. The club’s lawyer, Maître Xavier Le Cerf-Galle, now assures that Monaco can present a budget slightly above 14 million euros for next season.
This amount would also include the 2.38 million euros owed to the EuroLeague as well as the luxury tax related to the salary cap for the 2025-2026 season. The CNOSF must therefore now assess guarantees that no longer correspond exactly to those examined during Tuesday’s hearing.
A recommendation expected Friday, August 28 in the morning
The additional delay would thus be explained by the need to examine these new financial and ownership data. The CNOSF’s recommendation could determine the next stage of the procedure. A favorable opinion would allow the French basketball Federation to re-examine the situation of AS Monaco Basket and, potentially, to submit the budget to the DNCCG again.
At the same time, Benjamin Erisoglu announced Thursday his withdrawal from the takeover project carried over recent weeks around Ronaldinho. The Cholet business leader, who had mentioned several investors, now claims to want to “turn the page”. The project had not been examined during the conciliation hearing, with documents arriving after its start according to the Monaco camp.
The withdrawal comes as another financial solution would have been found by AS Monaco Basket. The question is therefore no longer solely that of the club’s liabilities, but also that of the solidity and consideration of the new guarantees provided.
The CNOSF’s recommendation is now expected Friday, August 28 during the day. However, the decision will not come directly from the committee: the conciliators’ opinion must then be followed by a decision from the federation’s authorities. For AS Monaco Basket, the stakes remain the same: obtain the right to participate in Betclic ÉLITE for the 2026-2027 season which begins in a month.
