The Francis-Gag Theatre has unveiled its new 2026/2027 programming in the heart of Old Town Nice. Between contemporary creations, great classics, family shows and musical events, the municipal establishment is banking on excellence and conviviality to appeal to all audiences from €5 onwards.
As every year, the Francis-Gag Theatre, a leading cultural institution located in Old Town Nice, lifts the veil on its 2026/2027 programming. Presented officially this Thursday, September 24, this new season promises to be rich in emotions and discoveries. From September 2026 to June 2027, the theatre will host more than 50 performances bringing together a selection of 30 all-audience shows, for adults, children, families and school groups. In order to open its doors wide to all local residents and theatre enthusiasts, the municipal structure makes a point of honour in offering particularly affordable prices from €5.
This commitment to openness and inclusion is the guiding thread of the artistic project carried by the establishment. Jennifer Moreau, director of the Francis-Gag Theatre, recalls the primary purpose of this mission. « The idea of a municipal theatre is that it should be accessible to as many people as possible and that a maximum number of people and spectators can find something for themselves. »
To achieve this objective, the team has structured its programming around three main pillars. The first is aimed directly at families and young audiences with 13 varied shows combining theatre, dance and puppets. As the director explains, the choice was made for productions that are « intelligent, interesting, funny and moving for the whole family. » The second pillar values theatrical creation in all its forms, combining great classics such as Shakespeare, contemporary creations, artist residencies and welcoming the winners of the Autumn Scenes Festival. Finally, the third pillar gives pride of place to musical and scenic forms by incorporating concerts, stand-up, musical shows and dance.
Artistic favorites and themes rich in emotion
One of the most highly anticipated highlights of this start of season is undoubtedly the musical show « Do You Know the Song? », a real favorite of the management. Jennifer Moreau makes no secret of her enthusiasm for this programming choice. « It’s true that I have a favorite because it starts right at the beginning of the season. It’s super transgenerational, it’s funny, it’s intelligent, it’s nice. » 2027 will also reserve some beautiful scenic gems, such as the show Raspberry Colour by Mhedi Djaadi. The director highlights the fineness of this work which addresses a delicate subject with great tenderness, « Mhedi Djaadi with Raspberry Colour can do a lot of good, because it’s a show that is both funny and touching. It touches on a theme that doesn’t seem funny: male infertility. But he approaches it with such finesse… Plus it has a lot of humor and self-deprecation about what masculinity is today. »
Far from any image of culture reserved for an elite, the Francis-Gag Theatre loudly asserts its role as a public service focused on excellence and conviviality. When asked what invitation she would like to extend to spectators to take the plunge, Jennifer Moreau firmly rejects the label of an intimidating theatre. « We want it to be accessible to everyone. We need to be demanding because we’re a public service. The goal is to spend an hour or an hour and a quarter thinking, wow, I learned things. » By combining local creations, leading comedy personalities like Emma Bojan and intergenerational moments of sharing, the 2026/2027 season of the Francis-Gag Theatre is already shaping up to be an unmissable cultural event.
