The Sainte-Réparate festival animated the streets of Old Nice this Sunday, October 11. Celebrating Niçois identity, this celebration is an opportunity to recall the importance of transmission and traditions.
The traditional procession crossed the streets of the old town in tribute to the Patron Saint of Nice residents. From the Town Hall to the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral, a procession formed around the emblematic flower-adorned barge, dressed with the coat of arms of the city of Nice.
Tradition tells that Réparate was a Christian from Caesarea in Palestine, who died a martyr during persecutions against Christians. The body of the young virgin was said to have been placed in a barge. Adrift on the Mediterranean, angels are said to have guided the vessel to the Nice shoreline, thus giving the name to the Bay of Angels.
This celebration reminds us of the importance of cultural transmission for all generations. Founded in 1956, the folk group Nice La Belle continues to contribute to the perpetuation of Niçois traditions. Beyond being a religious tradition, this gathering is precious for Nice residents, becoming a true moment of sharing. Between ritual and custom, Sainte-Réparate in Nice has managed to awaken the curiosity of many passersby, with its hymn, its costumes and folk dances.

The Sainte Réparate festival concluded with a concert in the heart of the Cathedral by the Harmony Orchestra.
