A 12-hectare green lung in the heart of the city: the Coulée Verte

Latest News

This comprehensive project involves the development of an urban park between the National Theater of Nice and the sea, on the sites of the hanging gardens housing the current bus station and the parking lot (which will be demolished and relocated), Leclerc Square, Masséna Space, and Albert I Garden.

The project manager will comprehensively redesign the sites to be redeveloped in order to create a “green corridor,” that is, a continuous green urban park, from the National Theater of Nice to the sea.

The development project covers an area of 12 hectares that includes: the site of the former bus station, the site of the former parking lot, Leclerc Square, Masséna Space and Jacques Médecin Forum, Albert I Garden.

The major redevelopment directions are as follows:
A green lung, at the heart of the city

Create a green lung that establishes itself as a major urban park in the city center where different activities can take place.

A link between Old Nice and the 19th-century city

Create a link that must restore coherence between the geography of the river and the urban organization that has developed on both banks: special attention must be paid to including the project perimeter in a façade-to-façade reflection that considers the relationships between streets and public spaces on the left and right banks.

A model of sustainable development

Commit to an approach of environmental quality and sustainable development.

A place of conviviality and well-being, a place of life and activity
Make this major urban park a lively place where people can enjoy strolling, lingering, and having fun in a quality landscaped setting.

Spaces dedicated to festive events, games, art, and culture

Organize spaces in the urban park dedicated to activities: festive events, children’s games, art and cultural projects.

The complete delivery of the Green Corridor is scheduled for September 2013

The total cost of the landscaping and development works for the Green Corridor amounts to €40 million, including tax, for Nice Côte d’Azur, with a contribution from the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes amounting to €3.5 million, including tax.
