After two seasons marked by the health crisis, the Alphabet Theater comes back in full force for a totally new 12th season. On the program: comedy, classics, children’s shows, and even magic. The Alphabet troupe is proud to present this year’s lineup.
“Welcome to the Alphabet Theater, Sรฉbastien at your service” under the applause of the audience, Sรฉbastien Morena, director of the theater, takes the stage more ready than ever to inaugurate the presentation of the new season. Behind the red curtains, he does not hesitate to mention the last two years which have been greatly impacted by COVID โWe survived the 10th and 11th seasons, don’t worryโ he jokes. With dim lighting and silence in the hall, the audience is captivated as they discover this year’s program’s novelties.
โIs there a pilot in the house?โ asks the playwright, much to his surprise (or not), no one answers; it’s not a question, but the title of the next comedy (written by Jean-Pierre Martinez) which will be performed very soon on September 17. โThe story of an editor-in-chief who meets a mortician holding a sensational scoop, if not the scoop of the century. But everything changes when she finds herself trapped on a plane for a 12-hour flight, holding THE scoop but unable to report it; if there are journalists in the audience, you’ll understand that it’s true torture.โ he exclaims
After the comedy, it’s time for magic. As he finishes presenting it, Sรฉbastien Morena directly asks Sylvia the Enchantress to step forward on stage and join him. Introducing herself as a magician, mentalist, and poetess, she decides to give a preview of her show, which she will open on September 18. โLadies and gentlemen, magic is a matter of transposition, take out your phonesโ she orders. As she finishes giving her instructions, the delighted crowd applauds the enchantress for her telepathy act, a number in which she accurately guesses a number chosen by a spectator. โHere’s a little preview of what’s in store for you.โ she concludes
Beyond offering different shows, the Alphabet troupe is preparing a very big event with several surprises.
The Theater Festival
If September promises a rich array of performances, the following month unveils a surprise party for the public. The Theater Festival, which will take place from October 8 to 24, will present four selected plays: โHeaven is Hellโ by Brigitte Brico, โThey Loved Each Otherโ by Pierre Palmade and Muriel Robin, and โThe Street of Little Virtueโ by Rรฉmy Molinari. Four shows, four masterpieces that will leave the audience on the edge of their seats and bursting with laughter.
The theater sessions offered at the Alphabet are not limited to a specific audience; musical performances as well as puppet shows are also presented for children. โItโs Not Difficultโ, โArthur and the Mustache Witchโ, โSuperstar Goalโ, and โMiss Bubbleโ are all comedies adapted for a younger audience. Enough to inspire a love for theater from a young age. At the end of the presentation, Sรฉbastien Morena offers a small buffet to the attending public to facilitate exchanges among the different individuals. As he is about to step out to answer journalists’ questions, a lady calls out to him “Very nice presentation, Sรฉbastien, it was great.”
