At the Sepang circuit for the Malaysian Grand Prix in Malaysia, Fabio Quartararo had a mixed weekend. After a complicated sprint race, the Nice native secured a fine fifth place in the long race.
Following a disappointing 16th place finish in Saturday’s sprint race, Fabio Quartararo aimed for improvement in Sunday’s long race. Unlike the previous day, the Frenchman got off to a good start, maintaining his starting position, eighth. This time, the Nice native managed to keep up with the pace of the leading group.
A solid race for Fabio Quartararo
Seventh at mid-race, Fabio Quartararo was stuck behind Jack Miller, just ahead of him. With eight laps to go, he managed to break through and take over the 6th place. The Yamaha rider aimed for a Top 5 finish in this closing phase of the Grand Prix. Thanks to a new overtaking move on Marco Bezzechi, Quartararo reclaimed the 5th position, his pre-race target. The last few laps didn’t change anything; the native of Nice secured a very good Top 5 finish in this race.
It was Enea Bastianini who ultimately claimed victory ahead of Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia, the world championship leader this year. As for Fabio Quartararo, with this fifth position, he moved up to 9th place in the world standings, overtaking Jack Miller. โIt was important to have a better start than yesterday. We are satisfied with the result and I hope we can achieve the same result in Qatar. We ran a very good race with what we have, but we still finished fifteen seconds behind the leader,โ the Nice native confided at the end of the race.
Next race is the coming weekend, November 18 and 19, for Fabio Quartararo and Moto GP. The riders will head to Qatar for the penultimate stage of the season.
