The Nice Carnival celebrates its 140th anniversary this year. Due to the whims of history, those very same events that bloodied Europe, this will only be the 129th edition. But beyond the numbers, our papier-mรขchรฉ monarch remains as lively as ever and invites his good people to celebrate and have fun for three weeks.
CARNIVAL KING OF THE 5 CONTINENTS!
Our Carnival is one of the three best-known in the world. For the press presentation of this event, representatives of Chinese television were noted to be present. The theme chosen this year is meant to be universal with the five continents.
This is an echo of the VII Francophonie Games which will take place in 2013 in Nice. The language of Moliรจre is spoken in all latitudes and his majesty Carnival, in a certain way, pays tribute to these games where the five continents will come together. The Carnival festivities, beyond the Corsi and the flower battles, will offer this year various activities, some of which are charitable, such as: The Rock ‘n’ Roll 10 miles of Carnival and the Carnival swim. As for the Corsi by day or night, 18 floats escorted by their large heads, royal guard, and international musical groups will offer the public a world tour in 90 minutes. The battles of flowers are an opportunity to combine beauty, ephemeral art, aesthetics, and the physique of young mermaids who, by their grace and smiles, will charm the thousands of spectators.
The floats, each decorated by a florist, about twenty in total, are as many works of art that shed their ornaments throughout the parade along the Promenade des Anglais. The Carnival is an opportunity for Nice to evoke its past and to introduce tourists from around the world to the mildness of its climate, this eternal spring that charmed the Courts of Europe between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
This year, Carnival embraces the era of modern means of communication and, like the TGV, you can have your E ticket. There are four light parades, four day parades, six flower battles, and other events not to be missed that await the public.
