Seven associations are organizing a solidarity collection and distribution of school supplies. A way for families who do not receive social assistance to prepare for the school year under good conditions.
Every year, underprivileged children go to school but do not have the required school supplies. Their parents, often undocumented or asylum seekers, do not receive the back-to-school allowance. Therefore, they cannot buy the necessary school materials for the start of the school year. Associations organize a solidarity collection and distribution of school supplies for them.
A good way to integrate
This collection and distribution have resumed in recent years, after a break due to lack of resources. It has increased from 200 children to 700 over the past two years, showing the global crisis in some countries. These children, often exiled, can benefit from a basic kit of supplies. It includes a schoolbag, a pencil case, a notebook, a pen, a pencil, markers, an eraser, a ruler, and any other primary supplies. The goal is to enable them to integrate more easily into school and learn under the best possible conditions.
A citizen initiative
The associations ADN, Cent Pour Un 06, Habitat et citoyenneté, Réseau Education Sans Frontière 06, Roya citoyenne, Tous citoyens, and Vallées solidaires 06 are mobilizing to make this collection happen. They mainly identify families in need, especially during outreach activities or clothing collections. For them, this action is primarily civic but should be implemented by the State: “The State does not support integration through school even though it is the primary factor of integration. There is a real shortfall, and we are appealing to the public authorities,” stated the association Tous citoyens. Even though schools have cooperative funds, it is not enough to cover all the children.
