With Mr. André Peyregne as the Master of Ceremony, the association “Les Amis de Lacassagne” has secured the gracious cooperation of Mr. Richard GALLIANO to produce a charitable concert that will take place this afternoon at 3 PM at the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral.
Richard GALLIANO was immersed in music from birth. His father, Luciano, an accordionist and music teacher, introduced him to the art, technique, and alchemy of sounds as well as the handling of keyboards before enrolling him at the Nice Conservatory.
There, he became familiar with harmony, counterpoint, jazz, trombone, and distinctions: first prize in Trombone excellence, first prizes at the World Accordion Trophies in VALENCIA, CALAIS, and from the President of the Republic, Musician of the Year with the Jazz Academy, or recipient of the Django REINHARDT Prize.
The accordion, often seen as the underdog of music, bore the stigma of the popular dance hall, but this was before Richard GALLIANO, a major artist of rare versatility, who gave the instrument its letters of nobility and carved out an international reputation by exploring jazz, then classical music, offering the accordion the means to stand proudly alongside Saxophones, Strings, or Trumpets, without denying its roots, for the occasion revisited and renamed: “New Musette.”
An arranger, composer, and exceptional soloist, Richard GALLIANO also shares the role of author with his father by co-writing an Accordion Method which was awarded the SACEM Prize for the best educational publication (see: www.richardgalliano.com).
As part of the program for this event organized for the benefit of the Anti-Cancer Center of Nice, the Antoine LACASSAGNE Center, Richard GALLIANO wishes to break free from fixed programs and offers a performance comprising eclectic works from his repertoire, rich in personal compositions expanded to include some pieces borrowed from his mentor Astor PIAZZOLLA, with perhaps an excursion into “classical” territory.
More than ever, he intends to be in communion with “his” audience and to shape “in situ” the program that will fulfill this ambition.
