A constituency that smells of gunpowder in Nice.

In the coming days, Nice Première will offer you a detour into the constituencies of the Alpes Maritimes, which will, in a few months, be the stage for the next legislative elections that will present the new Deputies of the Côte d’Azur.

legislatives-nice-1.jpg The UMP’s nominations for the upcoming legislative elections in Nice have not pleased everyone, especially in the first constituency where the outgoing Deputy Jérôme Rivière was passed over in favor of Eric Ciotti, a close associate of Christian Estrosi.

“I am completely stunned by this decision. I am attacked by an apparatchik who has never been elected, and I will request arbitration from Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the UMP.”
With a certain bitterness, the young Deputy from Nice received this news, still assuring that he would, no matter what, be a candidate for his re-election regardless of the circumstances.

A retort from Eric Ciotti who states that Jérôme Rivière “only remembers UMP at the time of nominations.” “He does not have the confidence of either the local or national bodies.” Enough is enough, the ballot box is full, and the reasons given are sufficient to explain this choice, which still remains hard to swallow for the current Deputy, whom the newly nominated candidate also accuses of “regularly distancing himself from his party.”

umps-2.jpg It is clear that the first constituency of the City of Nice will be the setting for an election worth watching, with the confrontation of the aforementioned two and Patrick Allemand, who, although he officially announces he is not concerned about his opponents, must, like any good politician from Nice, keep an eye on the UMP situation locally.

A small flashback to 2002 with a slate of candidates that already featured Jérôme Rivière and Patrick Allemand, but also other names from Nice politics like Gilbert Stellardo (DVD), Jean Auguste Icart (DVD), Jacques Victor (PCF), and Pierre Argentieri (FN). After a first round that put the current Deputy in a favorable position (26.57%) against Patrick Allemand (26.02%), it was ultimately Jérôme Rivière who was elected with 58.14% of the voters, representing half of the registered voters, while the current Vice President of the PACA Region only gathered 41.86% of the votes.

Who will be the other participants in the election? The political figures mentioned earlier might once again attempt their chance to reach a second round, which seems inevitable in this highly coveted constituency.
