On April 28th, we celebrate a double occasion: the 90th anniversary of Yves Klein’s birth—born on April 28, 1928, at 33 Rue Verdi in Nice—and the 60th anniversary of the anthological exhibition “The Void,” which was inaugurated on April 28, 1958, at the Galerie Iris Clert in Paris.
The MAMAC is naturally one of the privileged partners of the national and international operation initiated by the Klein Archives and offers various events highlighting Yves Klein’s connection with Nice.
For this anniversary day, the MAMAC offers an exclusive tribute to this artist considered one of the most innovative of his time.
From 3:30 PM to 11 PM, both young and old can immerse themselves in color, experiment with materials and sounds, feel the movement of bodies, and invoke the natural elements.*
Starting June 9th and continuing until September 16th, the exhibition “Cosmogonies, at the whim of the elements”, labeled as part of the anniversary events, will bring together artists from different generations who, in the wake of Yves Klein and his Cosmogonies, have sought to invoke nature in their work or capture the processes of erosion, crystallization, reveal the sun’s burn…
Throughout 2018, the restoration of the Fire Wall will be undertaken. As a reminder, MAMAC is the only place in the world to have a recreation of the Fire Wall.
A unique permanent room worldwide!
Monochromes, Anthropometries, Sponge sculptures, and objects impregnated with pure blue pigment: IKB (International Klein Blue), Cosmogonies, Fire paintings, Climatic architectures… the entire journey of Yves Klein is retraced in a permanent room at the MAMAC illustrating the uniqueness and multiplicity of his practice.
The room was designed from the MAMAC’s collections and with the support of the Klein Archives and private collectors who have generously put their works on deposit.
