“A Divine Comedy” from Hell to Paradise in Monaco

Latest News

Saturday, October 1st at 8 PM & Sunday, October 2nd at 3:30 PM at the Grimaldi Forum, Principality of Monaco. Organized in the Principality under the auspices of the Italian Embassy in Monaco in collaboration with the COMITES (Committee of Italians Abroad), this musical event spectacularly inaugurates the “Month of the Italian Language and Culture.”

“The Divine Comedy,” the first musical show based on Dante Alighieri’s eponymous work, tells his quest for love, traversing through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise.

A succession of encounters with extraordinary characters: the most famous damned and blessed figures in history, who have entered the collective imagination, are indeed at the heart of an unforgettable show, rich in projections and choreography.

The music, starting with rock rhythms expressing the drama of Hell, followed by the moving melodies of Purgatory, leads us to the gates of Paradise, where symphonic airs accompany an explosion of colors and lights.

In this work, the score blends with images inspired by Gustave Dorรฉ’s engravings, with the libretto remaining Dante’s original text.

Among the creators, we note the presence of artist Carlo Rambaldi, Oscar-winner for his special effects, “father” of E.T, Alien, and King Kong, who designed the Three Furies, the face of Lucifer, and the Griffin for this show, later brought to life by Sergio Stivaletti. Lastly, we salute the entire artistic team who skillfully combined music, literature, dance, and visual art.

After three years of success in Italy, attracting more than 600,000 spectators and a final performance in front of 9,000 spectators at the Verona Arena, this moving show, filled with imposing projections and surprising special effects, is set to enchant and touch audiences worldwide, starting with those in the Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum.
