A festival is too short… even in Nice!

Latest News

This edition deserves your support more than ever because, despite the quality of its programming, its public success, and its year-round outreach activities with the general public, school children, and students, the organizing association Heliotrope is experiencing full force the current turmoil that threatens all French cultural players, worsened by an unfavorable local situation given that the Festival’s budget has been cut by three-quarters of its municipal subsidy… No comment… The Festival is still on, and cinema is defended with as much fervor as ever by a smaller, highly motivated team!

Of the 668 films that were submitted to us this year from 21 European countries, of those that we have gathered through our research and travels, about 150 rare, unpublished, innovative, or unique works will be presented to the audience during the festival.

This year’s overview is complemented by several new features including “One Night is Too Short,” a night of short films full of surprises, performances, and films not to be missed!

The 8th edition of the Nice Short Film Festival turns its focus this year towards the Netherlands, “the other country of animation.” Building on the workshops and events organized outside of the festival, it also increases its support for local creation with “Short Workshops” and invites young audiences to become attentive and sensitive viewers during the many “school sessions.”

Finally, the festival invites the public and professionals to come and choose its “Grand Prize 2008” among the official selections, the European Competition and Mix Video, but also among the recurring thematic programs, Regional Products (films shot in the region), Experience 8.0 (New images), and Scopitone (music video).

A FESTIVAL IS TOO SHORT, which the Heliotrope association has been organizing in Nice since 2000, is the annual highlight of an action entirely dedicated to the dissemination and promotion of the “short form.”

Animation, documentary, webfilm, essay, experimentation, fiction, art videos, or music videos, the short film transcends formats and borders to express, sing, awaken, scream its anger or its desire to tell stories. It borrows from literature, dance, or photography to enrich itself with reality, dizzy itself with abstraction, and flourish in poetry.
