“Un festival, c’est trop court!”, the autumn cinematic event in Nice, unveils its 13th edition, which will be held from October 15 to 20. Since 2000, this short film festival has grown while staying true to its editorial line of presenting the best of European short films on the French Riviera.

festival-trop-court.jpg This new edition will offer 4 official competitions, along with numerous panoramas, focuses, professional days, and evenings. A program full of surprises and novelties, reflecting the cinematic genre it honors—the short film.

The official 2013 selection includes 83 films representing over thirty countries. Divided into 4 competitions—the European Competition, Experience, Shorts from Here, and Animation Shorts—the short films will be subject to votes from the professional juries, who will award over a dozen prizes.

The festival is also a journey through Europe, featuring a 2013 focus on Danish cinema in partnership with the Embassy of Denmark. A panorama spread across 4 programs retraces the history of Danish cinema, from the early steps of Carl Theodor Dreyer and Jorgen Leth to Lars Von Trier, Thomas Vinterberg, and Nicolas Winding Refn, up to the rising stars of contemporary cinema.

Always out of competition, the festival’s flagship programs, Scopitone and Crossing Borders, return with vigor. Scopitone 2013 pays cinephile homage with 1 hour of music videos and an inspired playlist (Kavinski, Fauve, Breakbot…) while Crossing Borders—season 4 continues its exploration off the beaten track of European creation with a selection of virtuoso works, like the Italian documentary “Il Capo”.

Another novelty, the festival this year invites the public to become programmers! Spectators will have the opportunity to vote for the short films they want to see in theaters, from 3 programs offered in partnership with La Septième Salle and L’Agence du Court Métrage.

School sessions will again play an important role in the festival with eight programs and 16 screenings. Besides the screenings and for the first time, the festival will organize a Discovery of Cinema Professions morning in partnership with the Rectorate of Nice on Tuesday, October 15, for middle school students who will meet cinema professionals.

Also to be discovered for the first time, a full day dedicated to students, on Thursday, October 17, starting with a round table on the social and solidarity economy. The afternoon and evening will offer numerous programs accessible for free, in partnership with the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. The day will close with music at Pandabar with a special Crossover program.

For the fourth consecutive year, the festival will reserve its Friday, October 18, for the professional day Nice Short Meeting. A day designed as a networking platform with round tables, author/producer workshops, and a masterclass. An opportunity for audiovisual professionals to address the artistic and economic challenges of short films.

The Cinema Rialto will host the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday, October 15, as well as the Closing Ceremony with the awards presentation of the official selections on Saturday, October 19.
