After the Top 14 semi-finals and the possible arrival of the 2024 Tour de France, Nice could soon host a new sporting event in its city.
The French Grand Prix has been held since 2018 in Var, on the Paul Ricard circuit in Castellet. This contract is expected to come to an end at the end of July. Last May, Christian Estrosi had suggested the possibility of alternating every other year with a second circuit.
According to the F1 boss, Stefano Domenicali, in the pages of L’Equipe, it seems that Nice has entered the negotiations to become the new French host of the French Grand Prix.
“An incredible project”
“You may not be aware, but there is an incredible project in Nice that wants a Grand Prix. It’s great because it proves that other destinations in your country are interested in F1.”
Stefano Domenicali even goes so far as to mention more than just a simple idea by alluding to “An incredible project” with the city of Nice. According to him, a meeting with the city’s mayor, Christian Estrosi, and the general director of the French Grand Prix Eric Boullier has already taken place during which they discussed the project.
“Lately, Nice is at the center of all interests”
Contacted by our colleagues from Nice Matin, the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi neither confirms nor denies.
“Indeed, lately Nice is at the center of all interests as a destination for organizing the most prestigious sporting events,” declares the mayor of Nice. “One day we talk about the arrival of the Tour de France, another about hosting the French F1 GP… This weekend when we are hosting the two semi-finals of the Top 14, it is pleasant to inspire envy rather than pity. Itโs a great encouragement for the local economy and the dynamism of our retailers, restaurateurs, and hoteliers.”
To be continued…
“We are going to look into the files and study them carefully. There are other things that could happen very soon. All I can tell you is that by the end of July, you will know more about the future of your Grand Prix,” concludes Stefano Domenicali.
For now, nothing is certain, but the capital of the Cรดte d’Azur has indeed entered the race to soon host the F1 Grand Prix in France.
