A cold wave is expected throughout France in the coming week. Temperatures are expected to be 6 to 8 degrees below seasonal norms. This wave is also expected to affect the Alpes-Maritimes.
In Nice and much of the coastline, temperatures are likely to hover around zero, not exceeding 8 degrees during the day, and this will continue until Wednesday.
Starting Thursday, milder winter weather is expected to gradually return.
Attention: we are experiencing a cold winter, but it’s not that exceptional, reports Mรฉtรฉo France.
After the 2015-2016 winter, described as the warmest ever recorded, the cold wave coming from the Scandinavian countries seems quite normal.
“No, the cold is not reaching record levels, France has experienced much worse,” say the experts.
Meteorological winter refers to the December-February period: during this period, using data since 1900, the average is 5.4ยฐ. Last year the average was 8ยฐ. The coldest winter was between 1962-1963 with an average of 0.7ยฐ.
No conclusions can therefore be drawn about the winter we are experiencing based on a few days or even weeks of cold weather.
