A pact of friendship between the City of Nice and the city of Astana, the new capital of Kazakhstan. This signing initiates a rapprochement between the two cities, Nice and Astana, thus encouraging the development of economic, cultural, and academic relations, while promoting their cooperation in the field of innovative urban technologies, sustainable development, and energy security.
As the guest of honor on the occasion of Astana’s 15th anniversary and following the signing of the friendship pact, the City of Nice received, in return visit, a Kazakh delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry Asset Issekeshev.
Engaged in the development of new technologies while preserving its age-old traditions, Astana will host the World Expo in 2017 on the theme “Energy of the Future.”
A very good initiative, in a sense, as this Asian republic is one of the driving forces in the development of new countries in this Asian zone.
However, alongside interests, there is also the respect for democratic and human rights. In this regard, Kazakhstan is not a model of the sort, the current regime being more akin to a personal dictatorship of President Nazarbayev.
The very recent case concerning the opponent Abliazov° should serve as a wake-up call!
It would be good for the leaders of Nice to be better informed before shaking hands and proclaiming feelings of friendship towards certain interlocutors.
