The eyes are Jean-Jacques Chaubard’s specialty. Eyes also mean the gaze, and his has turned unwaveringly towards visual artists.

Strengthened by this collection to which many others are added (Caroline Challan-Belval, Caminiti, Miguelโฆ), the Vernissages of โVision Futureโ have been enriching the local art scene for almost 20 years. Many artists have graced the space, some transitioning from the operating table to the picture rails. Even Hans Hartung came: โI was just starting out, and since the operation was delicate, I referred him to a more experienced colleague. I slightly regretted it when I learned he left behind a painting (laughs)โ. There’s always a crowd on those evenings, on rue du Congrรจs in Nice.
And people line up to reach the supreme level, the first floor. In addition to his permanent exhibitions, Jean-Jacques hosts creators from all origins and disciplines there.
On April 10 at 7 PM, VISION FUTURE will welcome Robert ROUX and Patrick WACK, two artists from Nice.
PATRICK WACK
A former fashion photographer and author of several collections of poems, Patrick Wack, born in 1948, enjoys capturing the ephemeral. Blending photography and poetry, his unretouched images, produced as unique pieces, reveal a strange and disconcerting world that invites viewers to see more than what they look at.
He has been exhibiting his work since 2012.
Past exhibitions:
SCOTCH TEA HOUSE (Nice) June-September 2012
BLOOM (Nice) November 2012-January 2013
Upcoming exhibitions:
ESPACE VISION MODERNE (Nice) starting April 10, 2013.
SOHO ION STUDIO (New York) starting May 12, 2013.
MUSรE DE LA CITADELLE DE VILLEFRANCHE (Villefranche-sur-Mer) from April 12 to May 25, 2014.
ROBERT ROUX
Robert ROUX was born on May 2, 1951, in Nice, a business owner (BLEU de France) and public figure (President of the Development Council of the NCA Metropolis).
โThe art of visual artist Robert Roux belongs to a French tradition, that of popular, naรฏve, or raw art, illustrated by singular figures like Jean Dubuffet or Gaston Chaissac. It’s a luminous art, as radiant as the Nice sun. Robert Roux shares many commonalities with Jean Dubuffet. Guarding his independence as an artist by remaining a business executive, this man from Nice could adopt the credo of the creator of LโHourloupe: โI am a Sunday painter for whom every day is a Sunday.โ Another trait connecting him to the inventor of ‘raw art’: Robert Roux loves to go it alone and challenge trends, to stray from the beaten path.
With jubilant wit, he diverts in his paintings and colorful totems the brands, everyday consumer items, tea bags, or soda cans. He juggles with the signs of daily life and endows them with a soul. He recycles aluminum cans and logos to create the ‘tikis’ of the era of recycling, the deities saved from selective sorting. As Norbert Hillaire writes, ‘in this sense, the art of Robert Roux is one of the most contemporary arts possible through this form of reappropriation that characterizes it and applies here to objects, images, and symbols emerging from consumer society.’ Robert Rouxโs ironic, mischievous statuary repairs the guilty distractions of consumerist haste and our disposable age’s habits.
It rehabilitates materials ‘fallen’ into the public domain. His strange characters seem to grumble with a subdued anger, demanding a right to exist, a dignity they were denied.โ
