The 2015-2016 edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings confirms the trends of previous years: although still leading, American universities are losing ground, while European ones are gaining positions.
In contrast, France is faring even worse than in 2014-2015, losing one of its two schools in the top 100, and three in the top 200, leaving only five institutions remaining. Only 27 French universities and grandes écoles are included in the THE rankings, which feature a record number of 800 institutions this year.
The University of Nice Sophia is ranked 401st out of 500. It is the 19th highest-ranked French university.
Staying within the region, the University of Marseille-Aix is in 9th place.
