The strike by postal workers at Thiers Post in Nice, which began on December 22, is not yet over. Will the Nice Court of First Instance reduce this social movement to nothing? Mid-week negotiations have not, in any case, been successful. The unions have filed an urgent legal action against the postal administration. Conclusion of the judgment: the 25 defendants have been exonerated, and the lack of negotiations by management has been noted. It is therefore a first victory for the striking postal workers in Nice.
The controversial “Postmen for the Future” plan
It has been almost three weeks since employees started protesting against the “Postmen for the Future” plan launched by La Poste. This project, which according to La Poste 06, “improves the working conditions of postal workers,” is currently causing disturbances in mail distribution. According to Yvon, stationed at the Thiers Post sorting center, “half of the rounds are carried out.” What remains most challenging is for the registered parcels. For businesses, it’s a struggle to get their mail on time, but usually, it does arrive.
The strikers are protesting against certain measures of the “Postmen for the Future” plan. Negotiations are focused on the rounds, with the administration planning strong and weak days, which include working 11 Saturdays out of 12… According to unions, more than 60% of employees then went on strike. On Tuesday, the court ruling was announced, and a large number of postal workers were still on strike in Nice…
The legislative proposal on status change has been adopted
Also on Tuesday, the new statutes of La Poste were voted by Parliament. These measures will completely change the company’s organization. La Poste will become a corporation on March 1st. The unions had already called for a strike to protest against this privatization project. Christian Estrosi himself explained at the end of the year that he preferred a reform over privatization.
La Poste is therefore not done making headlines in Nice and across France…
