A new national flood protection strategy is being developed by the State to comply with the European Floods Directive of 2007. This strategy will be adapted at the local level and implemented in the Significant Risk Areas (TRI) identified by the State.
The General Council will take the lead in co-developing the local strategy for the only TRI in the Alpes Maritimes, that of Nice-Cannes-Mandelieu, alongside the State.
Indeed, the Department, which has been engaged for several years in a proactive flood risk management policy, notably through the coordination of the Flood Prevention Action Programs (PAPI), and the management of classified dikes for public safety, is the only entity providing a comprehensive vision for the TRI.
The local strategy will be developed in the form of a summary document setting common flood reduction objectives and will then be implemented operationally within each PAPI of the TRI, namely Paillons, Var, Cagne, CASA, Siagne-Bรฉal, and Riou de lโArgentiรจre.
This Monday, February 17, Adolphe Colrat, Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, and Eric Ciotti, President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, will present the local flood protection strategy, in the presence of Mr. Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolitan Area.
