Primarily dedicated to anti-Covid measures and support, the municipal assembly (held via video conference, with the presence in the chamber of only the group presidents, no less than 8!) took place in a calm atmosphere and in a spirit of “republican concord” (according to Pierre-Paul Léonelli, Nice Ensemble).
The Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, emerged strengthened in his role as Lord Protector (“In this particularly difficult and challenging period for everyone, I have urgently implemented measures adapted to protect our population”)
by all the participants who acknowledged his unwavering commitment in these difficult and oh-so-complex moments and circumstances.
The analysis of the general situation found an easy conclusion: the failings and responsibilities belong to “others” (Government, state services, Europe, the world), with self-satisfaction and praise.
In fact, it must be noted that the debate somewhat went off track, fluctuating between concepts on a universal scale and others reverting to the caverns!
All of the deliberations in the “Covid” package were approved unanimously, except for a few marginal remarks.
These files concerned various aspects, such as a bonus for municipal officers, free parking until June 30, waiving the public space occupancy fee, the forgiving of rent for businesses and associations in public premises, a grant of nearly 0.4 million euros to associations that operate in the social sector, monetary allocations to families in precarious situations, allocation of a food basket for individuals over 65, financial aid of 0.5 million euros to the associative sector, and an additional 0.5 million euros to cultural associations.
Finally, schoolchildren will continue to benefit from free meal services.
Already announced in recent weeks, the Municipal Council also gave its approval to the establishment of an agency for health, environmental, and risk management safety, which will primarily have a preventative role.
Finally, the 2019 administrative account was approved. It shows a surplus balance of 14.7 million euros.
