Dr. Pagès has implemented a treatment combined with other medications that, according to trials, could delay the progression of cancer. It would then become a “chronic” disease and would no longer be considered “incurable.”
The Antoine Lacassagne care center based in Nice has developed a new way to treat kidney cancer. This idea, mentioned in 2008, has finally taken shape. It involves a molecule that must be associated with the VEGF protein. This cell is also effective for tumor models that are insensitive to immunotherapy.
According to the results, this molecule would also be effective for the treatment of other diseases. It would act notably on uveal melanoma, which develops in the eye and is very aggressive. According to a study, 30 out of 100 patients who escape radiation therapy treatment could live with the medications that have been created. This is also possible for cancers of the ENT sphere.
A start-up named Roca Therapeutics has been created. It is garnering all possible awards and funding from the academy in charge of developing the molecule and is also a winner of the I Lab. The company is currently in the regulatory toxicological phases and is expected to be finalized by the end of 2022 or early 2023. The treatment will then soon be accessible to everyone.
