A new episode confirms the shadow of the Calabrian mafia over the Italian Riviera.

After Bordighera and Ventimiglia, the possibility of contiguity with the Calabrian organized crime is also being considered for the municipal administration of Vallecrosia. The issue is delicate because the assumption that this activity does not stop at the border is much more than a suspicion!

mafia-2.jpg The mayor of Vallecrosia, Armando Biasi, has resigned. This decision was made following the latest news confirming mafia infiltration in the area of Ventimiglia. A comprehensive police file would be on the table of Prefect Fiamma Spena.

The outgoing mayor defends himself against the accusation of illegal vote exchanges during his election. In such cases, prudence dictates that the only way to know is to wait for the conclusion of the investigation and see what the judicial truth will reveal.

The name of the mayor of the small town in the province of Imperia, a few kilometers from Ventimiglia and Bordighera, has emerged just over a month ago in the investigation that highlighted the existence of a real enclave of the Calabrian mafia (N’drangheta) in western Liguria engaged in significant usury and extortion activities, involved in public procurement, and infiltrated in local politics.

The former mayors of Ventimiglia, Gaetano Scullino, and Bordighera, Giovanni Bosio, are suspected of collusion with the mafia.

Giuseppe Marciano, better known as Don Peppino, who was recently arrested and suspected of being the boss of the N’drangheta of Ventimiglia, referred to Armando Biasi as “a golden boy”.

The “golden boy” thus justified his decision: “After a period of personal reflection, I have decided to resign from the position of mayor.”

As required by law, the administration will be governed by a commissioner appointed by the prefecture.
