This new space of over 200 square meters is a unique tribute to the world, to the great 19th-century painter Jules Chéret.

Thanks to this room, Jules Chéret regains his identity as a grandiose colorist painter who knew how to reflect the party colors and the dazzling light that characterize the Côte d’Azur.

A full-fledged painter, monumental decorator, and pastelist, Chéret is considered the inventor of the modern poster, which he elevated to the level of artistic poster through the use of color and large format. Chéret created more than a thousand posters.

This artist was present at the inauguration of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in 1928. He entered this institution’s collections with more than 250 pieces: pastels, oils, furniture pieces, drawings. The Chéret collection at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nice comes from donations received from Joseph Vitta and Maurice Fenaille, two enthusiastic, cultured men deeply committed to supporting artists and artistic heritage.
