A New Life for the Albert I Garden in Nice

With these words, the mayor begins his speech, referring, among other things, to the state of the garden before the renovation project. He explains: “This garden has the merit of beautifying the city of Nice, but it has been degraded. The lawns were in an appalling state and the place was subjected to any kind of activity. All of that is over!”.

The words are out. Consequently, although the Christmas village of Place Masséna and the Ferris wheel will be in place as every year, it will be different for the stands usually set up around them on the Jardin Albert Ier. These installations, deemed “unworthy” by Christian Estrosi, will no longer be there. The mayor wants this garden to be in harmony with the Masséna space. The place will now be dedicated to certain events only. The marathon village, for example, will be welcome but arranged all around the lawns “without damaging them.”

Standing in front of a still-warm pavement – as workers finished renovating the ground just ten minutes before the mayor’s arrival – and under the rain, he continues with determination: the area will be watched, and the penalties “severe” if the state of Jardin Albert Ier, one of the oldest in Nice, is degraded. Starting Saturday morning, the people of Nice will be able to discover for themselves the restoration of the site.
The entire project of the deputy mayor on the “Promenade des Arts – Green Corridor of Nice” is far from being completed. It will continue throughout the duration of his term.
