Freshly elected, the new president Laure Carladous laid out the ambitions for her term. She is the first woman to hold the position of president of the federation BTP06, and she intends to contribute significantly to this profession, which demands numerous responsibilities.

Before announcing any future projects, the president recapped some figures to situate the building sector within its activities. A significant increase is seen in the installation of new housing, which includes construction permits, jumping by 20%. This increase must be relativized as these are the same figures as in 2012. However, despite this rise, installations are stagnating due to the increase in sales prices.

Non-residential buildings, in other words, industrial constructions, show a 76% increase in new projects, amounting to 250,000 m² of new buildings. More than 35% of the surfaces have been approved for construction, around 450,000 m² of land primarily located to the west of Nice. But the federation BTP06’s plans extend beyond the city of Nice. The entire department needs renovation, according to the new president. In the department, there are more than 6,800 job seekers in the building sector.

Recruitment remains challenging in the sector. Thus, the federation has decided to personally support their employees with specialized training. With new technologies, work methods are evolving. Workers need to be able to train on more recent machines. Simulator sessions are also introduced to facilitate training for crane operators or construction machinery drivers.

For public works, the figures are alarming. A decline of a quarter in activities since 2008 across the department. Therefore, the federation has decided to diversify its activities by accounting for waste emissions on construction sites. The president intends to introduce recycled and recyclable materials in the specifications for BTP companies.

One of the new president’s battles is to end unfair competition, with companies employing people in critical conditions, with payments not always made, and sustained work rhythms, even at night. Notably, illegal posting, which will be countered by increased checks on sites. The “BTP” card, available to employees, allows for this verification.
