FORMA, the Festival of Rare Objects and Puppets, is setting up for the first time in Nice from May 13 to 17. Five days of performances, workshops, and screenings to discover the multiple facets of a often unknown art form.
The Théâtre de la Massue is launching the first edition of FORMA in Nice, a festival dedicated to the art of puppetry. Organized from Tuesday, May 13 to Saturday, May 17, the event will bring together artists, enthusiasts, families, and professionals around a program spread across several cultural venues in the city.
For over thirty years, Théâtre de la Massue has been working to promote the art of puppetry in all its forms. This initiative marks a new step in this endeavor. “It was essential for Nice, a cosmopolitan crossroads of artistic influences, to create its own festival”, the organizers explain.
Over five days, the public will be able to attend performances from diverse backgrounds. The program caters to both adults and children, with an emphasis on the diversity of offerings. From contemporary theater with Marta Cuscunà or the company Ézéquiel Garcia-Romeu, to traditional Chinese puppetry with Yeung Faï, the forms vary, and the worlds intersect.
The artists will perform at partner venues such as the Théâtre National de Nice, l’Entre-Pont, l’Espace Magnan, the Musée des Arts asiatiques, and the Théâtre de La Semeuse. Ticket prices will range from free entry to €35, depending on the performances.
Screenings Throughout the Week
The festival is not limited to the stage. It also includes screenings, discussions with artists, and professional training. The latter will be conducted by Yeung Faï, a recognized master of Chinese hand puppetry. A family workshop will also take place on Wednesday morning.
The festival will kick off this Tuesday, May 13 at 7:30 PM at l’Entre-Pont with the evening « Apérodésastres #25 », combining screening and performance. The following days will alternate between school performances, shows for the general public, documentaries, and collective creations. Among the anticipated highlights: The Tiger and the Monk by Yeung Faï at the Musée des Arts asiatiques, or Betrayed Simplicity by Marta Cuscunà at l’Espace Magnan.
All practical information and ticketing are available on the Théâtre de la Massue website.
