For several weeks, the numbers regarding the spread of the virus have not been good. The positivity rate has been around 10% in recent days, while it was between 1% and 2% at the beginning of the month.
The incidence rate has risen from 52.71 per 100,000 inhabitants to 97.4, highlighting the progression of the disease.
The president of the metropolis, Christian Estrosi, has therefore decided to implement new measures to contain the circulation of the coronavirus.
After convening a few days ago the scientific committee composed of university hospital professors, infectiologists, and virologists, Christian Estrosi has recorded the latest recommendations from these experts and wished to discuss them with the Prefect and the mayors of the metropolis to address this issue with concrete measures.
To this end, the elected officials of the metropolis have decided to propose a collective plan that would effectively combat COVID-19.
Social distancing and masks
Christian Estrosi wanted to make it easier for the mayors of the 48 communes. They will be able to directly request the Prefect to issue an order making masks mandatory. In fact, the first magistrate of Nice announced that mask distributions would be organized if necessary. He reminded that the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis has a strategic stockpile of three million masks. Residents who wish can register to receive two washable fabric masks. In the interest of consistency, municipal police officers will be offered training to help them maintain order concerning compliance with health measures. These will be carried out by municipal agents of Nice.
Strengthening testing
It has been decided that several mobile buses will be converted into permanent “drive test” facilities at Acropolis. However, some will travel around the city, particularly in the Valleys and villages, to avoid medical deserts. The mobile centers implemented by the city will also go to so-called “sensitive” neighborhoods. Finally, a new test is being developed by the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (a joint research unit between the CNRS and the University Côte d’Azur). The goal of this experimentation would be to conduct between 2,000 and 3,000 tests per day.
A campaign of prevention and information
It will once again be possible to contact the “COVID-19” platform established during the lockdown at 04 97 13 56 00. It will be open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Residents who wish can register to receive two washable fabric masks.
Protecting the most vulnerable people
The focus is mainly on nursing homes. The mayors have collectively decided to reactivate the geriatric hotline for the 70 nursing homes in the Metropolis. Depending on the evolution of the health situation, measures for the restriction and isolation of infected residents may be implemented.
