The summer is expected to be particularly hot this year with a heatwave forecast, even more intense than last summer. As every year since 2004, the National Heatwave Plan (PNC) is activated until September 15.
The services of the Alpes-Maritimes department are mobilizing to implement awareness, prevention, and anticipation actions. Initially, the goal is to alert the most vulnerable populations, mainly the elderly or disabled individuals as well as children, by educating them about protection measures and ways to cope with excessive heat. Isolated people are encouraged to register on lists opened by the municipalities.
Regarding medico-social facilities, the objective is to make them aware of updating regulatory measures (cooling plans, emergency connection files).
The National Heatwave Council advises you to adjust your appointment schedules during the day to avoid traveling during the hottest hours.
In the event of reaching the “heat warning” level (more than 31°C during the day and 24°C at night for three consecutive days), there are plans to offer elderly access to air-conditioned reception areas of the Departmental Solidarity Houses in the absence of other nearby air-conditioned places.
In case of high heat, drink water (at least 2.5 liters per day), avoid alcohol, close shutters during the day and ventilate at night, wet your body, eat adequately and regularly check in on your loved ones. Continue to observe the preventive measures.
