A petition against chamois hunting in the Alpes-Maritimes is enjoying great success.

Launched a few days ago, a petition to ban the resumption of chamois hunting in the Alpes-Maritimes has been a resounding success, with already more than 27,000 signatures collected.

Launched last Thursday, this [petition](https://www.mesopinions.com/petition/animaux/chamois-danger-alpes-maritimes-urgence-sauvons/165047) is expected to be addressed to the LREM deputy Loรฏc Dombreval and the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, Bernard Gonzalez.

The hunt was initially opened on September 12 and then suspended two months later, on November 12. Chamois hunting resumed on December 11 in the Alpes-Maritimes. It is expected to continue until January 9, 2022.

“These chamois are being hunted where they are well-established and are not harming anyone! On the contrary, these animals have an ecological utility […] It should be noted that the chamois is not a destructive species that needs to be regulated, and there are no conservation measures in place,” the petition states. Thus, this chamois hunt is merely a leisure hunt.

“The situation is alarming because the number of chamois has been steadily declining for several years in our region,” add the authors of the petition.
