A petition launched against the demolition of the Théâtre national de Nice and the Palais Acropolis

Groups from Nice are mobilizing against the project presented by Christian Estrosi.

During his campaign for the 2020 municipal elections, Christian Estrosi announced his intention to demolish the Théâtre National de Nice and the Palais Acropolis to extend the Promenade du Paillon.
This project, which took time to develop, is expected to be completed in 2025. A new convention center will be built in west Nice, which will be more competitive to meet new international standards, while other theater spaces will be set up in the city.

However, although this project is taking shape more and more each day, opponents remain steadfast in their positions. This is the case with the group “Nice au Coeur”, led by Patrick Allemand, which has been active on the ground for two weeks collecting signatures for a “paper” petition to complement the online petition on the platform “Change.org”.

“Nice au Cœur” refuses to see the TNN (which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year) and the Palais Acropolis disappear. They consider this project a waste of public funds with the 75.6 million euros that are going to be invested, while “The necessary upgrades for both buildings can be evaluated at a maximum of 36 million euros.”
The pollution caused by the demolition of these buildings, which will require an impact study, is also challenged by Nice au Coeur.

The petition created by the group is soon to reach 3,000 participants, a significant number but one that is not yet enough to halt the project’s progress.
