A petition launched for the construction of a mosque in Nice

By launching this petition, the support committee for the Centre Ennour project, Nice la Plaine, wishes to remind the Mayor of Nice of his words during the last municipal campaign in 2008: “…Isn’t it legitimate to demand modern, intimate places of prayer where every believer could express their faith with dignity?”

For Saoud Smain, spokesperson of the association: “To renege on his commitments, the Mayor of Nice put forward the argument that the Muslim community of Nice is not making requests in this regard. And that there was no need to be more royalist than the king.

Following the latest statements and the refusal of the Mayor of Nice, a few weeks ago, to allow the opening of the Ennour center, many voices from the Muslim community, but also from humanists and republicans, are rising to legitimately demand this modern, intimate place of prayer, and a great place of worship worthy of our great city.

This petition, which aims to collect 5116 signatures, is there, according to the association, to reassure the mayor of Nice. He certainly does not have to be more royalist than the king, but there is indeed a legitimate demand, which falls within the framework of the 1905 law, to have places of worship, Muslim or otherwise, worthy of the fifth largest city in France.
