A public institution to prevent the risk of floods

Latest News

Starting from January 1, 2017, a common tool to prevent flood risks will be created, allowing for the pooling of resources and expertise from all stakeholders. This proposal received unanimous approval from all public inter-municipal cooperation establishments (EPCI) in the Alpes-Maritimes.

This establishment will bring together the Department, the metropolis, the communities of municipalities and agglomerations, and the river unions.

It will be operational across all watersheds (the Var and its tributaries, the Roya, the Paillons, the Cagne, the Loup, the Brague, the Siagne, but also the Magnan in Nice, the Frayรจre, the Roquebilliรจre, and the Riou de lโ€™Argentiรจre totaling 5,300 kmยฒ).

This proactive approach, one of the first in France concerning flood risk prevention, is a continuation of the Department Council’s actions in this area, as Eric Ciotti pointed out: “A comprehensive policy is being implemented to prevent and reduce the natural risks threatening the territories of the Alpes-Maritimes. In total, nearly 32 million euros have already been invested by the Department, which represents 28% of the total programmed cost of the six programs. We must now go further, and by pooling our strengths, be able to quickly provide more effective responses to ensure a high level of protection for the population.”
