A shelter for women victims of violence in Nice

Latest News

Because domestic violence is a sad reality in our country and the world, a day shelter for women victims of violence has opened in Nice.

A woman dies every three days due to physical violence within her relationship. In 2012, 122 women died for the same reasons. Almost 1,000 rapes are recorded by police or other services each year … Alarming figures that must be addressed promptly.

In Nice, 13 women died violent deaths within their relationships in 2010. This figure places the department among the most affected in the country. To respond to these acts of barbarism, the city of Nice has inaugurated a new center for all women affected by this issue. “Only two cities in France have this type of center,” proudly announced the deputy mayor, Christian Estrosi, present at the inauguration alongside Eric Ciotti, the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, and the public prosecutor.

This center aims to:

– Prevent emergency situations in hospitals, police services…
– Enable women to escape their violent contexts.
– Promote their autonomy by creating a new life project.

The reception at the center will be free and anonymous. It will provide support, information, and care to the women who come forward. Additionally, it will also be capable of taking in the victims’ children.

The city hall, in partnership with the general council, intends to continue mobilizing and best supporting the commitment of associations.
